Steve Ferris lives eastern Long Island, NY with his wife and two sons. Rather than becoming an artist Steve preferred to become the next Jaques Yves Cousteau, searching the oceans for sunken treasures, although after viewing the movie "Jaws" he decided a land based career would be more advantageous for keeping all of his limbs. He realized his love for art after spending time working in his father’s Manhattan special effects graphics shop where he found himself drawn (no pun intended) to world of Fantasy and Sci-Fi. There was a regular flow of Illustrations to be done performing color separation work but the big moment that changed Steve’s life was when Frank Frazetta's "Beserker" came in the door. Steve says he was in a trance the entire time Frazetta's work was in their shop, that was it, Steve knew what he was to do, his new path in life was set.
Steve’s formal training was at Farmingdale for Advertising, Art & Design where he became a master of figure drawing under the teaching of Professor Rafael DeSoto, a direct descendant of Spanish explorer Hernando DeSoto. His Professor suggested Steve seek employment in a publishing house where he worked his way to drawing paperback jacket covers in 1982.
